Da Lat Ward Police Addresses for Temporary Residence

Where to find the ward police (Công an phường) in Da Lat after the 2025 merger, and how foreigners get their stay declared and confirmed.

Every foreigner staying in Vietnam must have their stay declared to the local police: this is the temporary residence declaration (khai báo tạm trú). In Da Lat it goes to the ward police of the area where you sleep. Since 1 July 2025 the old Wards 1 to 12 no longer exist: Da Lat now has five wards, each with its own police station. Many maps and older articles still show the old addresses.

Quick answer: your hotel or landlord makes the declaration within 12 hours of your arrival. You only visit the ward police yourself if you need a confirmation of temporary residence (xác nhận tạm trú), for example for a residence card application. Go to the station for the ward where your accommodation is.

Your rental contract, a hotel invoice or Google Maps may still show an old ward (Phường 1 to 12). This is how they were merged under Resolution 1671/NQ-UBTVQH15 of 16 June 2025:

How temporary residence declaration works for foreigners

  1. You arrive and hand over your passport details. The hotel, homestay or landlord needs your passport, visa or e-visa and your latest entry stamp.
  2. Your host declares your stay within 12 hours. Hotels do it online. Landlords and private homes can declare online or take a completed form NA17 to the ward police. This is the host's legal duty under Article 33 of the Law on Entry, Exit, Transit and Residence of Foreigners in Vietnam.
  3. You ask for a confirmation if you need one. Some procedures ask for proof that your stay is declared, often a copy of the declaration confirmed by the ward police. Ask the office that needs it which version they accept before you visit the station.

What to bring to the ward police

  • Your passport, plus a copy of the photo page, visa or e-visa, and latest entry stamp
  • The completed NA17 form, or proof that your host has declared you online
  • Your rental contract or the address of your accommodation
  • Your host, or their contact details: police often want to speak to the person who declared you
  • A Vietnamese speaker if you can. Staff at ward police stations rarely speak English.

After a visa run, declare again. Leaving Vietnam and coming back starts a new stay. When you return to Da Lat from Moc Bai or a fly-out, ask your host to declare you again with your new entry stamp.

Frequently asked questions

Who has to declare a foreigner's temporary residence in Da Lat?

The person who runs the place where you stay: the hotel or homestay reception, or your landlord if you rent a house or apartment. Under Article 33 of Vietnam's Law on Entry, Exit, Transit and Residence of Foreigners, they declare your stay to the ward police within 12 hours of your arrival (24 hours in remote areas). You provide your passport and visa details; you do not have to go to the police station yourself unless you need a confirmation.

Which ward police station do I go to?

The one for the ward where your accommodation is, not where you work. Since 1 July 2025 Da Lat has five wards. If your address still shows an old ward number (Phường 1 to 12), use the table above to find the new ward.

What is form NA17?

NA17 (Phiếu khai báo tạm trú, “Registration card of stay”) is the paper form used to declare a foreigner's stay. Hotels usually declare online instead. Landlords can declare online or bring a completed NA17 to the ward police.

Do I need to declare again after a visa run?

Yes. A visa run means you leave Vietnam and enter again, so your stay starts over. When you return to Da Lat, ask your host to declare you again with your new entry stamp and visa or e-visa.

What happens if my landlord doesn't declare me?

The host can be fined, and you may have trouble later when an office asks for proof that your stay was declared, for example for a residence card or another visa procedure. Ask your landlord to show you the declaration or the police confirmation.

Are the old ward police stations (Phường 1, Phường 2…) still open?

Most old ward police units were merged into the five new ward police units on 1 July 2025. Some old buildings are still used as offices, but go to the address listed for your new ward and call ahead if you are unsure.
